UPDATE: Woman involved in deadly Jackson County deputy-involved shooting identified

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)– The woman who shot and killed a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy late Wednesday night has been identified by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. tells WXXV that 27-year-old Maley Elizabeth Ross also died at the scene after an exchange of gunfire with Deputy Michael Jimerson.

Jimerson later died at Ocean Springs Hospital from his injuries.

Lynd says Ross was a resident of the Reserve at Gulf Hills apartment complex, where the shooting happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Jimerson was responding to a domestic disturbance call there, when a brief foot pursuit and that exchange of gunfire with Ross occurred.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says Ross was armed with a pistol, and that Jimerson was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting.
