Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Gautier’s Armani Gordon!
In less than two weeks, schools across Mississippi will come together for two dates to compete for the powerlifting state championships. Gautier High School is known to always be in the mix when it comes to those discussions, and moving up a class this year didn’t change a thing.
Winning first in both regionals and south state in their first year of 6A competition, it’s safe to say these Gators have girl power!
This is just senior Armani Gordon’s second year competing in powerlifting and she’s a leader in the weight room and in the encouragment department. Not only does she compete in the 148 weight class squatting 285, bench pressing 125 and deadlifing 325, you’ll catch her constantly telling her teammates to lift one more rep and add more weight because she beleives they can do it.
Gordon and the rest of the gators want nothing more than to earn the class 6A State Championship title on March 27th, but if they fall short, they know they’ve already accomplished greatness.
Not only is she strong physically, but strong mentally and emotionally. Gordon dedicates a lot of her time to the NJROTC program at Gautier where she serves as the Executive Officer. Congratulations to Armani on leaving Gautier High School better than you found it, and best of luck to the Gautier girls and boys powerlifting team as they compete in State Championships next week!
