Man arrested after attempted church fire in Biloxi

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- A Biloxi man is behind bars on felony charges after attempting to set fire to a church in the city Tuesday.

Biloxi police say that 57-year-old Hung Nguyen is accused of setting fire to the steps of the Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church on Oak Street.

He’s now facing a state charge of burning a church or place of worship.

By the time police arrived on scene Tuesday, the fire on the steps had been put out and the church building did not suffer any damage.

Nguyen is being held at the Harrison County Jail now awaiting an initial court appearance.
