Cold weather shelter openings for January 27, 2026

Cold weather shelters across South Mississippi will open again tonight for people who need a warm place to stay.

In Hancock County, the warming center in the Kiln will open at 8 p.m. That shelter is located off Highway 43 and will also be open Wednesday night as well.

The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services, in collaboration with Jackson County municipalities, will open a warming station tonight.

It’s located at the Jackson County Fairgrounds behind the Civic Center at 2902 Shortcut Road in Pascagoula. The location will be open tonight and Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night. If you need assistance getting to the location, please contact your local law enforcement agency.

In Harrison County, warming centers will also be open tonight and Wednesday. The Kenny Fournier Multipurpose Building in D’Iberville will open at 4:30 p.m.

In Gulfport, the Salvation Army Center of Hope will open at 6 p.m.

For pets, the Humane Society’s animal shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until February 1.

Two shelters will be opening in Pearl River County tonight and will remain open until February 2, 2026. The Poplarville Community Saferoom is open 24 hours a day. That is located at 124 Rodeo Street. The Picayune Community Safe Room on Laurel Street will open each evening from 5:30 p.m. and stay open until 6:30 a.m.
