Cold weather shelters opening across South Mississippi

Due to cold weather approaching, some South Mississippi counties are opening shelters across the Coast.

In Harrison County, the usual warming shelter locations will open at the Kenny Fournier Multipurpose Building in D’Iberville at 4:30 Sunday afternoon and the Salvation Army’s Center of Hope in Gulfport will hope at 6 p.m. Sunday night.

In Pearl River County, the community saferooms in Poplarville and Picayune will open up at noon on Sunday. You’ll need to bring your own personal essentials for your stay in those shelters.

The cold weather shelter will open in Hancock County on January 25 at 8 p.m. The shelter will also operate Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. That shelter is located at 18320 Highway 43, Kiln. For more information, call 228-255-9191.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi is opening a cold weather pet shelter. The shelter will open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 25th and be open until February 1, 2026. Drop off and pick up is between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Pet Resources Center located at 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport. For more information, contact HSSM at 228-863-3354.
