Annual MLK Day of Service planting project
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Local businesses and organizations also gathered across the Coast to work on civic projects as part of a day of service to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In Gulfport, there was an annual planting project that added new trees to areas of the city.
With the help of volunteers and several organizations, the work resulted in 70 new trees planted throughout Brickyard Bayou Park.
The goal is a total of about 200 trees in the park. The planting event is a part of the Trees Mississippi Assistance Program, but the event is made possible each year through contributions from other organizations like Mississippi Power.
