Governor Reeves opts in to school choice tax credits

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)- Governor Tate Reeves on Monday making a move that signals his support for expanded school choice in Mississippi.
Reeves has opted Mississippi into the federal tax credit scholarship program, designed to expand school choice opportunities for Mississippi families.
Specifically, taxpayers can donate as much as $1,700 and receive the amount back through a federal tax credit as a way to support students without any cost to themselves.
The program begins in federal tax year 2027 and was created as a provision in the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ that was signed into law last year.
In announcing the move, Governor Reeves said in part that the move gives parents more say in their child’s schooling and will help Mississippi continue its upward trajectory when it comes to education and student success.
