Former Southern Miss closer back with Mississippi Braves
On the other side of the diamond, former Southern Miss closer Bradley Roney is back with the Mississippi Braves this season.
After getting all the way to AAA Gwinnett in 2016, he was plagued by a shoulder injury at the end of the year that carried all the way over into spring training.
Roney says he finally got feeling back to normal a couple months ago and is now back with the M-Braves after starting the season in High A with the Florida Fire Frogs.
An unfortunate setback for the once Golden Eagle who is still patiently waiting on his chance to make it to the bigs. “It can be frustrating at times, just knowing that you are so close and you have some of the same stuff that guys in that big league bullpen have. It’s just a matter of being as consistent as those guys are. And that’s what makes a big league pitcher so good is how consistent they are. I mean like I said, everybody in the organization has the stuff to pitch in the big leagues. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here.”
An eighth round selection of the Atlanta Braves in the 2014 MLB First year player draft, Roney still holds a two-way share of the USM school record for career saves with 30.
