Apartment fire leaves one dead, one injured in Wiggins
Wiggins, Miss. (WXXV)- One person is dead and another is severely injured after a Tuesday night fire at a Wiggins apartment building.
Wiggins firefighters received the call around 5:30 about flames seen on North Magnolia Drive.
The victim of this fire died at the scene, while another person was transferred to a regional burn unit for treatment.
There were no injuries to firefighters who worked to put out the blaze.
Two apartment units received heavy damage while another received significant smoke damage.
Wiggins police, Stone County Fire Service, Stone County Sheriff and Pafford EMS assisted with operations, scene control and patient care.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigaiton.
Wiggins Fire Chief Steven Purvis released a statement following the fire.
Speaking on behalf of the fire department, he says their hearts are with the family and loved ones of the victims.
He went on to say the department is committed to supporting the family, community and firefighters in the days to come.
