Man charged with manslaughter in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Jackson County Grand Jury has returned an indictment on a 55-year-old Jackson County man.

The jury indicted 55-year-old Jason Lamar Broadus on the charge of manslaughter.

According to Sheriff John Ledbetter, on November 18, 2023, deputies responded to a medical emergency on Lily Orchard Road in the Helena community. Deputies discovered 52-year-old Dwight Scott Tanner unresponsive in the aftermath of a disturbance at a gathering.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Tanner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation determined Broadus was involved in an altercation which resulted in Tanner’s death.

This charge carries a potential penalty of two to 20 years in prison.
