IMMS says Green Sea turtle no longer endangered
Exciting news from the Institute of Marine Mammal Studies, the Green Sea turtle has been elevated from endangered to least concern.
That’s coming from the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
IMMS reminds all Coast residents the local population still needs protecting, as do all sea turtle species on the Gulf Coast.
They also say that the Green Sea turtle is not commonly found in the state, but officials have had to respond to a handful of sick and injured Green Sea turtles over the years.
IMMS says those rescues range from strandings following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to one turtle that was caught in a baseball cap.
