State Auditor’s Office announces partnership with ICE
JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV)- State Auditor Shad White announced his office has signed an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to White, agents will be trained and approved by ICE to execute functions of immigration within the state if needed.
The state auditor’s partnership with ICE is part of a nationwide program which lets state and local law enforcement agencies assist ICE with immigration enforcement.
OSA agents participating in this program will continue their primary responsibility of conducting criminal investigations into misspent government funds, but are now also able to assist ICE during emergencies.
Auditor White went on to say “Last year our team found illegal immigration costs Mississippi taxpayers around $100 million per year in public education, healthcare, and criminal justice expenses. If we can do anything to stop this by helping ICE, we will do it.”
