9/22 – Another Humid Day on Tuesday With the Chance For a Few Showers

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at your forecast

Skies stay calm and clear tonight, with lows in the low 70s. Tuesday brings another sunny, warm day with highs near 88.

By Wednesday, spotty afternoon storms start to pop up, and another round of showers and thunderstorms moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. Rain will become more widespread Thursday, keeping highs a little cooler in the upper 70s and mid 80s.

This unsettled stretch is short-lived though as a cold front will push through late in the day on Thursday. Then on Friday, the sunshine begins to return with morning temperatures starting in the mid 60s and rebounding to the upper 80s by the afternoon. It will be feeling quite nice as dew points will drop into a much more fall-like pattern through the weekend.

Highs on Saturday and Sunday will likely top out in the mid to upper 80s, and we’ll keep those pleasantly cooler nights around with temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

On the tropical front, Hurricane Gabrielle has strengthened to a category 4 storm with winds of 140 mph. It will maintain that strength through the next couple of days before starting to lose steam and deteriorating to a tropical storm by the weekend.

There are two other areas we’re watching in the Atlantic basin, one being in the west-central Atlantic with a high chance for development over the next 7 days. This storm will likely follow a similar path to Gabrielle, although the forecast becomes a little uncertain more than 3-4 days out.

The second area we’re watching is just east of the Leeward Islands and is moving to the northwest around 12 mph. This tropical wave will sit a little closer to the Bahamas and Florida Peninsula by the weekend, and then the forecast becomes a little less certain. We will continue to keep you updated on both disturbances as well as Hurricane Gabrielle.
