Tree down in yard in Ocean Springs
Strong winds early this morning toppled a tree, startling an Ocean Springs family sound asleep in their Hunter Drive home. No one was injured, but as News 25’s Caroline Eaker shows us, their finances took a hit.
It was a rude awakening for an Ocean Springs family early Thursday morning as they were jolted from their sleep by a loud noise outside their home. Homeowner Greg Cassidy said, “Sometime around 3:30, 4:00 in the morning, the wind gusted up and I guess it was one of them, what do you call it, feeder bands and the next thing I know, I heard a big crush and I come out here and the trees on the car.”
High winds have been an issue in this storm. This family suffered no damage to their home, but only a slight dent and a cracked windshield in a car. Andy Streitmatter said, “We had a big branch fall on our car. We got a busted windshield and a few dents in our car, but nothing too bad.”
Streitmatter and his girlfriend drove from north Harrison County Wednesday night to his father’s Ocean Springs home, seeking shelter from the storm. “They were staying at Saucier at her house and the storms were worse up there so she came here to stay the night and a tree falls on her car,” said Cassidy.
A decision that, in a strange twist of fate, would wind up costing them for car repairs.
The family is still counting their blessings in the long haul, considering the house is still standing and not damaged, despite a close call back in 2005 when their home took on the full force of Katrina. “During Katrina, the tail end of Stark Bayou runs right through here and picks up right over there so that backed up during Katrina, but other than that, nothing,” said Cassidy.
