FoFo Gilich’s request for beach pavilion removal sparks questions about homeless displacement

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) – Biloxi Mayor FoFO Gilich has requested that Harrison County remove the shade pavilions on the beach area between the I-110 loop and the lighthouse parking area. Gilich says that the homeless population gathering there for shade prevents beachgoers from enjoying the area

But that raises another question: if the pavilions are gone, where will the homeless individuals move to?

Back Bay Mission claims that removing the pavilions addresses only one symptom of the problem, rather than providing a complete solution. Pennington says it’s common for people to lack compassion towards those experiencing homelessness. In reality, many Americans are just a few paychecks away from facing the same reality.

The pavilions on Biloxi Beach are managed by Harrison County, which sets most of the rules and regulations for the shoreline.
