Southern Miss HC Scott Berry rooting for MSU in CWS Finals
In terms of big-time college baseball, it doesn’t get any bigger than the state of Mississippi.
Each year, the Magnolia State ranks first in attendance across any state’s big three programs and MSU is living proof of that, still playing in the last week of June.
It’s funny how your biggest rivals can be some of your biggest supporters in a classic case of ‘us’ versus ‘them’ mentality.
Take Mississippi State, for example, and Southern Miss, maybe not SEC rivals, but two teams with history that play one another virtually every year.
Yet when push comes to shove, USM’s Scott Berry is all in on the OmaDawgs. “Absolutely. I feel like Mississippi is the strongest baseball state in the country, in all honesty. I mean there’s three very, very good programs here, and to have one there on the national level representing our state is what we all want, so good luck to Mississippi State, trying to get that first national championship.”
Mississippi State beat Southern Miss 4-1 in a neutral site game way back in early March.
