Southern Miss’s Right Field Roost continues to impress at Hattiesburg Regional

Sports Director Ansley Brent was live at Pete Taylor Park, home of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles as they host the 2025 Regional in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She wasn’t in just any section of “The Pete,” but arguably the best college baseball environment, the Right Field Roost.

“The Roost” is where Golden Eagles dreams come true, and away teams are quickly faced with their worst nightmare. Brent had the chance to speak with loyal members of the roost prior to game time and asked them what makes the place so special.

“We’ve got a saying out here that we just sit sometimes and look out on this place and look at each other and say ‘What a place, what a place,’” said John Smith. “It’s just such a special environment. It’s great when you can host post-season baseball, but it’s also just as great out here in The Roost when it’s February and 33 degrees and you’re standing under heaters. It’s a great environment and a great group of people. We’re all family out here, and just happy we’ve gotten to this place of the season.”

“We’ve got a close knit group out here,” said Trey Sutton. “The Right Field Roost has been a staple of this ballpark for as long as I can remember, coming out here as little kids, and it’s not going anywhere. It’s great to be a part of it and again just enjoying post-season baseball again out here.”

“It’s just always fun,” said Tripp Ross. “There’s always a lot of movement and liveliness. The fans are amazing.”
