2017 Summer Jamboree
This afternoon at Jones Park’s Barksdale Pavilion, the Coast’s special needs community was enjoying their summer.
The City of Gulfport and several local organizations have put together the city’s second annual Summer Jamboree. The groups participating in the jamboree provide the children and adult members of the special needs community with food, fun, and friendship.
The event draws a pretty big crowd each year, all coming together to kick off their summer on a fun note. City of Gulfport Special Events Coordinator Lauren Wales said, “Every year in the spring time or summer time we come together and try to put on this event for them just so that they have a place to go. We have the shriner clowns here doing balloons. We have a couple of church groups that help us out with volunteering. We also have the special needs soccer association. We just like to help out and provide that outlet and get different groups to come together and maybe meet other groups that they could probably partner with.”
