USM’s Dylan Burdeaux picked by Detroit Tigers

After Taylor Braley and Kirk McCarty were selected on the second day of the MLB Draft, all the focus shifted to which team would pick Southern Miss first baseman Dylan Burdeaux. As it turns out, his name was called much later than expected.
The Conference USA Player of the Year finally came off the board on day 3, courtesy of the Detroit Tigers with the 605th overall pick in the 20th round.
In 2017, Burdeaux had a senior season for the ages, leading the Golden Eagles in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, and stolen bases. Not to mention, his 102 hits still lead all of division I baseball even though his season came to an end in the Hattiesburg Regional.
Burdeaux tells News 25 that multiple teams spoke with him yesterday, saying they would take him by the end of the day before the Tigers ultimately came through.
So just to recap, four USM players got taken overall, the last one being Hayden Roberts in the 34th round by the Colorado Rockies. Of course, Braley was picked by the Miami Marlins and McCarty by the Cleveland Indians.
Today was also a big day for Ole Miss after being one of just two SEC teams to not have a single player taken on either of the first two days of the draft. Five Rebels came off the board on the third day starting with David Parkinson in the 12th round. Tate Blackman, Colby Bortles, Brady Feigl, and Kyle Watson were the names that followed.
Then some more action for Mississippi State and LSU who each had two more players get the call of their lives. Ryan Gridley and Jake Magnum were the guys for the Bulldogs as well as Hunter Kiel and Doug Norman for the Tigers.
