Mississippi Association of Supervisors 88th annual convention
Representatives from all of Mississippi’s 82 counties chose Biloxi for the 88th annual Association of Supervisors Convention.
The representatives from across the state got a taste of South Mississippi during this year’s convention with a second line dance complete with jazz musicians. They also got down to business discussing critical policy areas necessary for our state.
Throughout the week long convention, the supervisors discussed and shared new ideas to ensure safe communities, protect public health, promote economic development and more. Topics of discussion this year included funding for roads and bridges, internet sales tax, and mental health. Harrison County Supervisor and 2017 Association President Connie Rockco said, “We’re concerned as a body about mental health and the fact that we may have to lock up people because mental health has been cut so severely. The jails, I think now the state probably owes us for housing inmates over a million dollars that we’ve not collected. So, we’re very interactive and we’re at the grass roots level.”
Rockco was elected the first woman president of the association last year. Take her place this year is Hinds County Supervisor Peggy Calhoun.
