Local teacher receives national scholarship
A Gulfport High School teacher is one of 53 teachers in the country who will go on to receive a master’s of history degree courtesy of the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation.
Jeffrey Bush teaches U.S. History, Government, and Economics at Gulfport High School. The fellowship will fund up to $24,000 of Bush’s course of study toward a master’s degree. James Madison Fellowships support further study of American history by college graduates who aspire to teach younger generations about how our government works.
Bush says he’s honored to receive the fellowship and hopes to inspire his students to become concerned about the future of our country. “A lot of people couldn’t even tell you who our governor is, people couldn’t tell you who their representative is, they couldn’t tell you who their senator is and that’s a problem so that’s why I take my job seriously and that’s what I look to do with young people, try to instill in them at 16, 17, or 18 years old that that is important, that this is something you should be concerned about.”
Bush says he’s considering going to USM or Ashland University in Ohio for his master’s.
