Staying proud one year after Orlando shooting
Pulse Nightclub was a destination for the gay community and the shooting shocked Americans in the middle of June, which is recognized as National Pride Month.
Members of the local LGBT community are staying strong, organizing the first ever Gulf Coast LGBT Pride Day event for locals set for June 24th. The group tells News 25 there is an open invitation for any and every person who supports their cause, regardless of sexual orientation. Jana Riley with Gulf Coast LGBT + Pride Day said, “Everyone’s invited to come out and share the day with us. We’ll have all day entertainment, vendors, craft vendors and food vendors, kid activities and at Point Cadet they’ll have a playground and splash pad that we’ll have available to use for the day. We’re definitely hoping that everyone in the community that is supportive of what we are, what we stand for and what we’re trying to do for that day will come out and be a part of it.”
The Pride Event will take place Saturday, June 24th at the Point Cadet Plaza in Biloxi starting at noon. Admission is free to the public.
