Harrison County EMA hosts hurricane preparedness meeting

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Hurricane season is coming up fast. The season starts June 1 and runs through November.

Ahead of the hurricane season, the Harrison County Emergency Management Agency hosted a meeting on Thursday afternoon.

Officials were invited out to hear what can be expected for the 2025 season.

Director Matt Stratton was on hand for the discussion. “2025 looks to be another busy one. Early predictions out of Colorado State University and we’ll soon have NOAA’s predictions. We are looking at up to 17 named storms this season – 9 of those becoming hurricane strength and 4 of those becoming major hurricanes. If you compare those to our averages, we expect 14 named storms and 7 hurricanes with 3 being major in a given year.”
