Billfish Classic awards ceremony
The Mississippi Billfish Classic has come to an end.
Over the course of the tournament, records were broken, including two fishermen breaking the Mississippi state record for reeling in a swordfish that weighs over 75 pounds. In all, 120 boats participated in the weekend event.
The awards ceremony Sunday afternoon was the final event of the tournament. Members of team Aries hoisted up a massive blue marlin that tipped the scales at a whopping 668 pounds. This huge fish was big enough to clinch the winning title for team Aries. They left the Coast with a check for almost $400,000. Team member Jason Friedman said, “It’s always hard to try and pull something like this off. It was beautiful weather. Our crew did a great job, put us in the right spot and I guess we got lucky first thing on the second morning.”
The anglers aboard the Aries were not the only winners this weekend. More than two million dollars in prize money was given out.
