Hop into awareness egg hunt

BILOXI, Miss (WXXV) – Families gathered today at the Biloxi Lighthouse Pavilion for the ‘Hop into Awareness Egg Hunt’. It is a special event hosted by the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence blending fun with a powerful message. Held in recognition of in support of sexual assault awareness month, the event aims to raise awareness, offer resources, and empower children to know that they are in control of their bodies. With games, activities, and important conversations, organizers say it’s about creating a safe, supportive space for all while engaging the community in meaningful ways.

The Communications Director, Rene’ Davis, says, “we know that these are things that kids will face whether we to think about that or not and being able to kind of protect themselves you know we want to make sure that we reach kids at an age-appropriate level. We don’t want to scare them or anything but we want to start talking about the fact that their bodies belong to them and that they can tell an adult if something happens. We want to make sure they understand the whole idea of consent very early because if we start early and reinforce then they will be better able to protect themselves against sexual assault as adults”

The Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence says to wear teal to show your solidarity against sexual assault.
