Animal Control Appreciation Week: Meet Gulfport Police’s Gary Reagan

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) – This week is Animal Control Appreciation Week, and in the City of Gulfport, one animal control officer goes above and beyond.

Gary Reagan is accepting an award for saving a young girl’s life from being mauled by a dog. That attack lasted 15 minutes, but due to his heroism, the girl survived.

As an animal control officer, Raegan says they must have the ability to assess situations and defuse them quickly. Officer Raegan’s biggest animal control safety tip is microchipping, spaying, and neutering your pets.

Animal control officers ensure the safety of not only the people in our community but our beloved animals as well.
