UPDATE: Gulfport Fatal Crash Victim Identified

Harrison County Coroner, Gary Hargrove, identified 65-year-old Scotty Barfield of Gulfport as the victim involved in the Sunday afternoon fatal crash on Highway 49.

According to The Gulfport Police Department, the collision occurred when Barfield attempted to cross Hwy. 49 from Hwy. 53 in a Ford Mustang. As she traveled toward N. Swan Rd., a 19-year-old driving a Toyota 4Runner ran a traffic light and struck the side of the Mustang.

Barfield was taken to Garden Park Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:50 p.m. A 1-year-old passenger in the Mustang received minor injuries. The driver of the 4Runner was not injured and received a citation for disregarding a traffic light.
