New details in Jackson County murder, kidnapping

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- New details in the case of a Jackson County man arrested for murder early Thursday morning in what investigators say was a domestic fight turned violent.

Twenty-four-year-old Karis Hamilton is accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Devin McDaniel at a home on Santa Fe Avenue in the St. Martin community.

A second person, 34-year-old Rosland McDaniel, Devin’s mother, was also shot and was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s investigators then say Hamilton fled with his four children, ranging in age from 7 to 2.

They were later found safe at a relative’s home in Gautier.

Hamilton is now charged with murder and domestic violence and is being held at the Jackson County jail.
