Yellow Jackets Shut Out Rebels in Dominant 38-0 Victory
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — The Yellow Jackets delivered a commanding performance Friday night at Joe Barlow Stadium, shutting out the Rebels 38-0.
The Yellow Jackets established control early, building a 21-0 lead as Dawsen Sullivan punched the ball into the end zone on a goal-line carry.
Looking to respond, the Rebels turned to quarterback Caleb Russell, who used his mobility to keep the offense moving. Facing pressure in the pocket, Russell escaped a would-be tackler and scrambled toward the sideline for a first down.
Russell continued the drive by connecting with Jaylon Dantzler, who turned upfield for additional yardage. Running back Ke’Adrian Brown followed with a five-yard carry, giving the Rebels another opportunity to move the chains.
However, the Yellow Jackets’ defense refused to give ground.
Russell once again escaped pressure and scrambled upfield but slid just short of the first-down marker. Facing fourth-and-one, the Rebels handed the ball to Brown, who was met by a swarm of Yellow Jackets defenders for a turnover on downs.
With possession back in their hands, the Yellow Jackets looked to extend their lead before halftime.
Dawsen Sullivan stepped up in the pocket and rolled to his right before connecting with his twin brother, Dawsey Sullivan. Dawsey broke free from a defender and raced downfield, appearing headed for the end zone.
However, Rebels defender Steven Powell made a tremendous effort to chase him down and prevent the touchdown before halftime.
Despite the defensive effort, the Rebels struggled to find an answer for the Yellow Jackets on either side of the ball.
The Yellow Jackets went on to secure a decisive 38-0 victory, completing the shutout in front of their home crowd at Joe Barlow Stadium.
