Severe weather expected for the area

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI, (WXXV)-A significant weather event is anticipated for South Mississippi on Saturday.

Severe weather this time of the year isn’t uncommon. With the threat of the upcoming potential weather, the Harrison County Emergency Operation Center is closely monitoring conditions.

We were able to speak with Harrison County Fire Rescue Chief Pat Sullivan and here is what he had to say ahead of the potential storm.  “All of the first responders out there are closely monitoring the system that is coming in from the west. The EMA offices are getting briefings from the National Weather Service all the time and they are following and tracking it as it is moving this way. There is a potential for some strong storms, the timing is in question right now. The primary thing that we ask everybody to do is to stay weather aware. Tune in to your local tv stations and radio for alerts following the path of the storm and the recommendations from the media is a very important thing. Harrison County has an alerting system, the HarCo system, that the EMA sends out emergency notifications and people can get that and get alerts on through their phone also.”
