One person found deceased in water; Wiggins Police believe it was an accidental drowning

WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV) – First responders located and recovered a deceased individual from a body of water on Tuesday evening following an extensive search effort, according to the Wiggins Police Department.
Around 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of an adult male in the water who appeared to be drowning. Officers responded immediately and were joined by personnel from the Wiggins Fire Department. Search-and-rescue operations were initiated and led by the Wiggins Fire Department, with assistance from Harrison County Fire Rescue and other responding agencies.
According to police, preliminary information indicates that the death is believed to have resulted from an accidental drowning. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
At this point, it is not clear where in Wiggins the incident happened.
At this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident. There is no threat to the public.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wiggins Police Department.
