Jackson Co. Declares Oct. Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In light of recent N.F.L. controversy over domestic violence, many in the Gulf Coast community want to know what is being done.

Monday, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors responded with a proclamation. In conjunction with Adrienne House’s, a shelter in Pascagoula, they have named October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Adrienne’s House shelter was opened in 2011, named after a Pascagoula woman who was killed by her abuser.

Stacey Myers, a representative of Adrienne’s House, says, “Domestic violence is a very real thing that we deal with on an everyday basis. Bringing it out in October is one thing, but it’s here all the time, 24-7, every day of the week, and Adrienne’s House is supported by United Way. We’re a United Way Agency Program, and we want to say thank you for all of those who have just donated in the United Way campaign and given through that. It helps us continue to do what we do to provide services and safe spaces by those who have been impacted by domestic violence.”
