[Warning: Graphic Content] Vibrio case reported on the Coast

A man was severely injured and hospitalized after fishing in Gautier and he claims vibrio is the cause of it all.
Close friends of the victim posted a picture of his infected hand to the ‘Vibrio along the Gulf Coast’ Facebook page. The post says the man was fishing in the Singing River on Saturday when he cut his finger on a shrimp. He woke up the next morning with extreme swelling on his finger, a 103 fever, and pain in his arm.
According to another recent post, doctors will have to remove at least half of his finger due to dead tissue. Vibrio survivor Jocko Angle said, “If you have an impacted immune system, you can get it. The other conditions are within 72 hours of a substantial rainfall or lots of wind which is exactly what we had last week. It’s what we had yesterday. That means, sometime this weekend there’s a possibility that someone can get it.”
Because vibrio works fast, doctors recommend you seek medical attention as soon as you can see any form of infection after being near or in the water.
