Alumni gather for 10th annual Locker High School reunion in Stone County

W.P. Locker High School was the only high school in Stone County for Black students before schools were integrated in 1969.

Alumni of Locker High joined together to reminisce on cherished memories. They reflect on their favorite teachers and staff, and even the lunch ladies in the cafeteria. One former football player shared how the team used secondhand cleats, spending the summers fixing them up to prepare for the season. Steve L. Chambers, a member of the class of 1966, recounts a special senior trip to Washington, D.C.

For Mr. Chambers, it is a blessing to be able to reunite with his classmates and witness their success. As Locker High alumni preserved through attending a segregated school, they couldn’t predict what life had in store for them. Locker High School alumni continue their legacy, a rich history that is determined to be remembered as time moves forward.
