Officer on a Train

Gulfport police officers patrolled the streets from a different perspective this morning with Operation Lifesaver.
Officer on a Train is an initiative to promote public safety at railroad crossings in Gulfport. Two officers rode inside a Kansas City Southern Railway Train to see how vehicles react when trains approach.
Unfortunately many vehicles and pedestrians believe they can beat the train, but officials urge them to think otherwise and never take any chances. Sgt. Damon McDaniel with Gulfport PD said, “Other than a major fatality involved when you get hit by a train, you have the violation of running the warning which is a traffic offense in of itself, but like I said the worst thing that can happen is individuals get hit by a train or killed by a train which does happen.”
The Kansas City Southern Railway runs north and south through the City of Gulfport.
