Ocean Springs School District Superintendent talks upcoming bond issue
The future of the Ocean Springs School District was the topic of this morning’s Jackson County Area Council meeting.
The discussion centered around the vision and future plans of the Ocean Springs School District. School District Superintendent Mike Lindsey spoke at the meeting about the bond issue the district is currently undertaking for facility improvements. “So, this started about a year and a half ago working on plans and what capital improvements needed to be made to the Ocean Springs School District. We started with a strategic planning group and it’s a great opportunity and great timing from the district’s stand point. We have some millage that was used to build a new high school, now that’s rolling off, so we are proposing to keep that millage on and use those funds to be able to make this capital improvement to our school district and set us up for the next 10 or 15 years. The concept of having our elementary to be a k-4 instead of a k-3 the way that they are now. Our 5 and 6 moving to a relatively new middle school and a very nice facility and then building a state-of-the-art facility on the upper campus. Still being able to use the gym and auditorium into the plans so we keep some of the old traditional structure and we are just excited about the opportunity and we want everybody to go on out and vote.”
To answer any questions and to keep the community informed about the bond election coming up, the school district will have two open houses at the central office on February 27th and March 13th. The special election for the bond issue is March 18th.
