Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Pass Christian’s Kailey Taylor!
Just like a Swiss army knife, Kailey Taylor is a multi-tooled student athlete at Pass Christian high school. The Junior can cover every inch of the soccer field and her versatility is a huge advantage.
“Over the years I’ve learned different positions just being an athlete,” said Taylor. “I think it’s helped me with my knowledge on the field, knowing where people are going to be, where to play the ball to and where they want it because I know how to play all the positions.
If you think she’s got her hands full now, you’re in for a treat. In the process of training and perfecting her craft on the pitch, she picked up track and cross country in the process. Her competitiveness and eagerness to be the best carried over to those sports as well.
“I like the competitiveness off it. I’m an extremely competitive person which is why I do as many sports as I do,” Taylor said. “It’s definitely taught me hard work. I’ve had to earn my spot on multiple teams. It’s taught me grit and that hard work pays off because I’ve dedicated countless hours to soccer and track both and getting the results you want it’s just, I love that.”
The soccer field and track isn’t the only atmosphere Taylor shows out, but she’s also a star in the classroom. While playing on two different soccer teams, practicing in Louisiana twice a week and along with track and cross country, Taylor somehow keeps a 4.0 GPA in the process.
“You have to learn time management being an athlete and keeping my grades up. It’s hard work, but it’s just learning how to manage your time wisely to get it all done,” Taylor said. “Coach Devin is awesome. My track coaches and cross-country coaches, they’ve been awesome letting me go and do my thing in club whenever that’s in season and whenever I’m over here, a lot of it is dedicated to school soccer and track.”
Taylor proves time management and hard work pays off as she currently has multiple collegiate offers for both soccer and track. As she prepares to play at the next level, she’s looking forward to getting her education in the process.
“I want to major in law. I haven’t decided what I want to do in law yet, but I definitely want to go into the law realm. I like reading and analyzing,” Taylor said. “The competitiveness I get in sports, I think that’ll carry over to law, so that’s why I think I have a growing interest in it.”
She’s been named the MVP in all three sports, and we have no doubt she’ll be the MVP in the courtroom as well, but first she’s got a date with the third round of playoffs with her Lady Pirates!
