More than 1,400 pounds of copper scrap found at Stone County business

A scrap metal business in McHenry could face legal trouble after more than 1,400 pounds of copper communications wire was found during a search last week.

Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley said his office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and Hancock County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Parker’s Scrap on Parkertown Road in McHenry on February 4.

The search was part of an investigation into copper wire theft that led to multiple arrests.

During the search, officers found more than 1,400 pounds of what Haley said was illegally obtained copper communications wire. Parker’s Scrap did not have proper documentation required to obtain copper wire, leading investigators to conclude the wire was knowingly stolen and illegally obtained.

The Secretary of State was notified of Parker’s business operations, and the case has been released to the District Attorney’s office for pending criminal prosecutions.

This is an ongoing investigation across multiple jurisdictions that could result in further search warrants and arrests.
