Annual flag placing ceremony at Biloxi National Cemetery
Over 19,000 flags were placed along graves at the Biloxi National Cemetery over the weekend.
In preparation of Memorial Day, hundreds of volunteers came out Saturday morning and placed the American flag at each grave site to pay their respect to our fallen heroes and their families. The tradition is held at national cemeteries nationwide and has been celebrated since the Civil War.
People from all over the country came to honor their friends and families or just participate and give thanks to the troops.
Retired Army Veteran Ramon Steybe comes to visit his parents and friends, but says it is great to see the community get involved. “Makes me feel pretty good, especially some of the younger kids, even though I know they probably don’t really understand, but they still, you know, they get the sense that their parents respect what’s going on. Eventually, hopefully, it’ll carry on through their later years.”
