Early admission available for high school seniors to The W’s Nursing Program

COLUMBUS, Miss. — High school seniors now have the opportunity to secure early admission into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mississippi University for Women.

The recent launch of the Freshmen Early Acceptance (FEA) Program provides high school seniors the opportunity to secure early admission, giving them a head start on their journey toward a successful career in healthcare.

“Our college is excited to embrace this new entry option. We know the value of a liberal arts foundation in developing critical thinking, communication and other skills, so we look forward to securing spots for those students within our programs,” said Dr. Brandy Larmon, dean of the Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The BSN-FEA program is designed for high-achieving students who meet the following criteria for early admission:

  • Acceptance as a first-time freshman with a declared major in BSN.
  • Completion of all prerequisite courses at The W, with the exception of up to 15 hours of Dual Enrollment and/or Advanced Placement (AP) credit courses.
  • A minimum ACT score of 24.
  • A cumulative high school Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program prepares nurse generalists who are leaders in the promotion and maintenance of health and the improvement of healthcare outcomes across all settings at the local, state, national and global levels.

The Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences has been named the best school in the state for nursing and ranked 39th nationally, according to Niche.com. In 2024, The W had the highest cumulative pass rate in the state with a score of 99.36, maintaining first place in the state for another year. More than 98% of students who completed The W’s registered nursing programs in spring 2024 obtained licenses in Mississippi, and 83% of the graduates accepted a position within the state.

To maintain eligibility while at The W, students must adhere to rigorous academic standards:

  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher each semester.
  • Remain enrolled as a full-time student in the fall and spring semesters.
  • Achieve a minimum grade of “C” in each prerequisite course without repeating any courses.
