State Line man charged in New Year’s triple homicide at convenience store

A State Line man has been charged in connection with a triple homicide at a convenience store in Greene County on New Year’s Day.

37-year-old Drexler Johnson was arrested early Thursday in Wayne County and charged with accessory after the fact in connection to the killings of store clerk Rhonda Denson, her boyfriend Lester Campbell and store customer Jason Thornton at Clark’s convenience store around 6 a.m. Jan. 1, 2025.

Greene County Sheriff Ryan Walley said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. He would not comment on whether the shooting suspect had been identified.

“I am thankful for the community’s assistance in providing information and ask that anyone with information to continue to contact our office,” Walley said. “We are still actively investigating this case and this case is my number one priority, so I may provide justice to all the families affected by this tragedy.”

“I would also like to thank all the agencies that have assisted my office in investigating this horrible crime.”

Walley said he was not sure whether Johnson had had an initial appearance or if bond had been set.
