Hurricane preparedness exercise in Waveland

The Waveland Police Department hosted a hurricane preparedness exercise with City Hall employees.
The courtroom at the station is set up as an emergency operations center. Officials have been using a generator to test the power and also checking the water and computer system.
Representatives from MEMA, Hancock County Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service all attended to help prep the staff of hurricane preparedness.
Police Chief David Allen tells News 25 this is not only about preparing, but recovery after a storm. “We’re trying to find tune how the city recovers. One of the big issues after a storm is filling out your paperwork from MEMA, from FEMA, making sure it’s all done right, making sure you’ve done everything you need to do and do the paperwork as you’ve gone. We’re going to help tighten the city’s system for recovery so hopefully we’re first in line to get repaid, not last in line.”
Chief Allen says he wants all City Hall employees to learn the layout of the police station because in an emergency that is where they will work out of.
The exercise runs until 4:30 tonight.
