Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Poplarville’s Nick Miller!
The last week of high school football is finally here, and our student athlete has been working hard at practice all week long trying to bring his school their very first State Championship title. He leads the team in three different categories, and he’s our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week! Introducing you to Poplarville football’s very own Nick Miller!
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is loaded with talented with high school student athletes, but not every student athlete is a true scholar of the game, and you know someone’s a true football scholar when you ask what position they play, and this is their response:
“Running back, wide receiver, corner, safety, and pretty much anywhere,” said senior football player Nick Miller. “When I was little I played little league with these guys. My step dad put me in a whole bunch of positions to see what I’m comfortable with and I just continued to work out and work on those types of positions and just keep striving to be best in any position the coaches are able to put me in. Anytime they need me in each position, I’m ready to step up and do my job.”
That was Mr. Do-it-all Nick Miller. A senior captain on the Poplarville High School football team. He leads the Hornets in rushing yards per game, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns. He says his motivation to perform stems from his teammates and his family.
“It’s just pretty much the team. I mean I love these guys and I know they got my back and I’ve got their back, and I know my mom, my sister, step dad, they’re all relying on me.”
Because of them pushing him to do his very best each and everyday, Miller’s football journey doesn’t end in Popvegas, as he currently has four offers to play at the next level.
“It’s truly awesome because I’ve been working all my life. I’ve been relying on everything I’ve put myself through. Sometimes it’s been a struggle and sometimes it’s been good, but I’ve just got to keep pushing forward .”
Although he doesn’t know exactly yet where he’ll be playing next year, he knows exactly where he’ll be playing next weekend, and that’s at The Rock at Southern Miss where he and his teammates are taking on Louisville for the 4A State Championship title. Miller says if they play their game, they have a chance to win it all.
“I mean work hard, do our job, discipline, be smart, just play the game smart. All the teams that I’ve played with throughout the years were disciplined and smart, it’s just sometimes you don’t get the outcome you were looking for, but you just have to be patient and trust God.”
Miller and the Hornets are patiently waiting for kickoff this Saturday at 3:30pm. Best of luck to all the Hornets as they aim to bring home the very first State Championship in school history.
