Wiener Wonderland light display makes its return to Woolmarket
If you take a turn around Karli Lane in Woolmarket, you’ll be greeted by Wiener Wonderland, where an owners love for Christmas lights and dachshunds have created a light display quite like nothing else.
“This is the tenth year that we’ve put up Wiener Wonderland. It’s a bunch of lighted dachsunds, its my collection. It started out ten years ago with ten of them and I keep adding to them every year. We started putting it on Facebook and it went viral. It’s actually world famous, we actually made it over to the UK one year. We get a little fanatical dachshund owners, we’re a little bit of a strange breed so to speak and I love the breed,” said owner and creator, Shelby Pierce.
Even with space on her lawn quickly running out, Shelby has no intentions of slowing down. Since the display’s creation in 2015 , she now owns around 80 dachshund displays and looks to outperform her self each and every year.
“It’s one of these things like you have to top yourself every year, like what can I do next. It’s fun, it gives people something to come back at look at. It’s not the same thing year after year, after year. There’s always something new and they’re welcome to come look at it anytime.”
This light display isn’t all just for show, as it supports Tired Dog, a local organization which uses donations collected from the display’s visitors to rescue abused and neglected dogs.
Visitors can donate online through the Tired Dog website or can scan the QR code on the signs posted at the Wiener Wonderland display. There is also a physical donation box set up for in person donations at the display.
