MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Jackson

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Jackson Police Department that occurred on October 15, 2024.

Officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a call for service on Interstate 220 regarding a hit and run incident where shots were fired striking a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of the damaged vehicle and then observed the subject attempting to flee the scene, the subject then presented a weapon towards the officers.

The officers discharged their weapons, striking the subject causing non-life-threatening injuries. The involved officers did not receive any serious physical injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

The incident is the 24th officer-involved shooting in the state in 2024.
