Phi Theta Kappa MGCCC Jackson County Chapter Supply Drive

It’s always important to support your local community and one Coast student organization is doing just that.

One of the largest student organizations in the country is running a supply drive for homeless coalitions right here in Jackson County.

Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for students of associate degree granting colleges.

The organization has more than 4 million members in nearly 1,300 chapters spanning across eleven nations.

One of those chapters located at the MGCCC Jackson County Campus is looking to make an impact on their coastal community.

PTK CO-Adviser Karen Scott said, “Each yeah Phi Theta Kappa does a capstone project called the honors and action project. Where they look around their community to find an issue that involves all of us. This year they chose the issue of homelessness in Jackson County. We partnered with local organizations to do a supply drive to get certain items they’re requesting.”

PTK Vice President Aiden Baudier said, “The boxes are going to be in different business around Jackson County. A couple of specifics are Woody’s in Ocean Springs, Burnhams in Vancleave, The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Vancleave and Vancleave High will do a drive.”

PTK Vice President Allison Richards said, “As young people we have a different perspective of things going on in our community. And as students us officers are the top students at our college so we’re really involved in the campus but we also need to be involved in the community as we grow up and get our careers outside of community college.”

Starting in October drop off boxes will be scattered all along Jackson County. They’ll be looking for items like toiletries, houseware, bicycles, tents or pillows. The drive will run until November 1st so be sure to stop by and make a donation.
