Phone threat cancels D’Iberville Middle School dance

We have an update on a phone threat that canceled a local middle school’s dance this weekend.

On September 21st, D’Iberville Middle School received an anonymous tip from the Crime Stoppers tip hotline stating that a shooting would take place at a dance later that day.

After talking with D’Iberville police, the school decided to cancel the dance as the safety and security of their students is their number one priority.

Many parents were upset as threats like these are becoming more common as multiple schools along the Coast have dealt with similar situations.

D’Iberville Middle School Principal Matthew Elias said in a social media post quote, “We are so sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We are continuing to work with authorities and make the recommended adjustments in the coming days.”

News 25 was able to speak with D’Iberville police and though they declined to speak on camera they said there are no updates at this time. In the meantime, they urge parents to talk with students about reporting any suspicious activities or threats to school officials.
