Pascagoula renames street after local D-Day veteran

On Tuesday night, the Pascagoula City Council passed a motion to rename McVey Court into Jim McInnis court, their way of honoring a local hero.

Jim McInnis is a D-Day veteran who helped with the 1944 invasion of Normandy and a local of Pascagoula since he was born in the city in 1924. McInnis worked for L and N Railroad for over 40 years and is a deacon for the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist church, which he has been a part of for more than 70 years.

Currently McInnis is the only resident living along McVey Court, which has been his home for seven decades. For Pascagoula city officials, this was just one way that that they could show appreciation to someone who’s sacrificed so much for others.

“When you get the opportunity to honor someone like Mr. McInnis, who’s a veteran, fought in World War II, was there at D-Day, something we read about in the history books, something that he lived and can still tell you about, being able to honor to honor him I believe is one of the best things we can do in city government,” said Pascagoula City Councilman At-Large, Patrick Gatchell.
