Firefighter Physical Agility Test
Seven men put their physical and mental strength to the test this morning with the Gulfport fire department. In order to become a firefighter, you have to pass the physical agility test. Each part is timed and consists of demanding tasks such as pulling rope, dragging a 200 pound dummy, jumping through windows, and much more. Each recruit has to not only complete each event under a certain amount of time…but wear about 40 pounds of equipment in the South Mississippi sun. “Mainly though it’s mental toughness, you’re going to want to quit, the test is designed to make you want to quit but you have to push forward you have to block it out of your mind and push forward…” – Eric Valles Training Chief “Just stay at this pace and don’t pass out…just keep this steady pace and you’ll be alright is what I was thinking really.” – Dylan Dedeaux Recruit Four men passed and three failed this morning. There are another 19 recruits who are taking the test this afternoon and tomorrow. You can catch this full report tonight at 5:30.
