Jackson County Board of Supervisors proclaim a Declaration of Local Emergency

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors proclaimed a Declaration of Local Emergency, Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, in advance of Tropical Storm Francine.
Tropical Storm Francine is predicted to make landfall in Louisiana late afternoon on Wednesday. Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings are in effect for Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. Forecasters are predicting strong winds, heavy rain, the possibility of flash flooding, storm surge, and possible tornadoes.
In preparation of the impending bad weather associated with Tropical Storm Zeta, the following precautions have been set forth in Jackson County:

RECREATION FACILITY CLOSURES
All recreation facilities, to include parks, ballfields, boat launches, and arenas are closed as of 12PM (noon) today.
JACKSON COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL OFFICES
County Offices, including the Jackson County Landfill, will close tomorrow, Wednesday – September 11th at 12:00PM (Noon) due to deteriorating weather. Further closure information will be shared once determined.
WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICE
Waste Management will run its regular schedules Wednesday and Thursday.
Residents are asked NOT to put any rubbish on the roadside at this time.
Please remember to secure garbage and recycle containers.
JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOLS (Including Moss Point, Pascagoula-Gautier, and Ocean Springs School Districts) All schools will be CLOSED tomorrow (Wednesday – September 11th). Determinations regarding Thursday’s schedules will be made as weather updates are received.
